Banking Responsive Design

As a Fresher or as a User Interface Design Intern, Banking Application Responsive UI was given as a project to start with.

Responsive Web design is the approach that suggests that design and development should respond to the user’s behavior and environment based on screen size, platform, and orientation. Let’s start by stating the obvious: mobile is different from desktop, and designing with mobile top-of-mind is becoming increasingly important. Users are turning to their mobile devices more and more these days, and that means website designs need to adapt — in ways that go beyond smaller screen size.

While designing the Online Banking interface, we looked at some of the ways user interactions on mobile and desktop:

· Tappable /Clickable Interactions

· Dropdown Menus or contextual Menus

· Navigations (Right side containers)

· Content Prioritization(List views-Expand or collapse)

· Situation-based Design. etc

Banking became more personalized rather than only transferring money. There were applications, where there was an option to change the theme of the whole app. Banners/ advertisements had a huge role in most of the online banking applications. In another scenario, the customer will get notification based on the event or festival. In some cases, this is region-specific, the different region will have different festivals and events.

While in the research part, I went through a few of the reports on Banking as in Online Banking platform, there are few pain points of the user, who have enrolled in Online Banking experience, mainly in usability area.

So, there a few stats, why the user sign into online banking. They are:

To Check account balance — 88%

Pay bills and transfer money — 56%

Transaction history — 48%

Branch and ATM map — 41%

Currency rates and calculator — 15%

Currency exchange — 7%

Contacts of the bank — 7%

Also, we did more research on the key principles of digital banking •Personalization •Transparency •Self-service •Mobile-first •Simplicity •Aesthetic.

Next, was the need of the important elements in the introduction page or what we call it as Dashboard •Sign in inputs •Bank contacts •New user form •Branch & ATM locator •Bank products promotion •Currency converter •Newsfeed.

The other key elements of a banking website, Balance and Trans History Dashboard: •Balance statement •Monthly income •Monthly expenses •Monthly and daily available •Category budgets •Latest transaction history •Quick Access menu for every transaction.

The user in any banking website, will not like to wait for the website to load their history or transactions Posted/scheduled. That will cause inefficiency of a website or the user will have a bad experience. So, the most important thing that I learned until now that an online experience should be personalized and easy access to any link.

Nowadays, not only the user experience but the user interface design should be trendy flat and modern and talks more about the branding of the Bank. The colors, Logo, Contact information, etc.
