How I Lost Over 25kg In Under A Year

by Curtis Tredway

(15 years old and roughly 72kg)

I had been extremely self conscious my whole life as I had been overweight since I was a child.

I loved the beach yet I would refuse to go as I was so paranoid, I walked with my shoulders rolled forward to cover my “man boobs” and to top it off I moved frequently — being a defence force kid, so my insecurities worsened each time I moved schools as I put on more weight and struggled to make friends.

The thing is, I worked my butt off to try and lose the weight and nothing happened. My parents always cooked nutritious meals and restricted junk food in our household. I was signed up to swimming, tennis, and personal training, nothing worked.

I can only speculate about why I struggled to lose weight despite being more active and eating healthier than all of my friends and I believe it was due to desire.

I wasn’t exercising for the enjoyment, I hated it and I wasn’t willing to push myself to the limits to achieve it.

Not only that but most of the habits were short term so the achievements did not stick around.

(16/17 and 42kg)

The pinnacle moment that pushed me in the right direction, was the day a friend I had made at a new school gave me no option other than to go bodyboard with him. I loved it.

I had finally found an activity that I truly enjoyed, I was walking too and from the beach every day and bodyboarding for hours. I was seeing the results too.

Then I took it too far, I wanted to be thin so badly, I wanted abs and I wasn’t going to stop to try and get them. I completely cut what I was eating, stuck to just salads and water.

Everyone at school was asking If I was sick, teachers asked what was going on in my life and my family were worried. Whenever my family wanted me too eat foods or order me something fatty I didn’t want I would get angry and snap. On top of my “diet”, I was doing Freeletics — a callisthenic (body weight) style routine.

Whilst it is excellent under normal circumstances, it was definitely not in mine at the time. I would take photos constantly and I still felt insecure and I genuinely believed I was still overweight. It isn’t too this day that I look back on them now and realise how bad I had gotten.

Please excuse the terrible quality, these photos are all I had access to at the time of writing.

Whilst everyone was pestering me and forcing me to eat, one person took a different approach. He simply asked me to come to the gym with him.

I grew up with my uncle, I am closer in age to him then any of my brothers and have always looked up to him. His approach was different, I don’t know if someone told him to do it or if it was off his own volition, but either way it had a massive impact on me.

That first session was awful, it destroyed me, but I loved every minute of it. From that point forward I trained constantly and people were noticing. Another stand out point for me was in the final day of year 12.

Throughout school I always longed to be like the “popular” kids who excelled at every sport. On our very last PE lesson we were playing a game of football and I was out performing all the kids I had longed to be like, and I remember their remarks and frustration.

It only took me 12 years of school but I got there.

3 years later I am still absolutely loving the lifestyle and the industry, and I now weigh the same as I did when I was just 13 (75kg).

Unfortunately I have had many injuries from slicing my arm open, breaking my arms 3 times, breaking my foot and getting tietze syndrome. But this will be the year pushing myself to be the best I can possibly be.

What I have learned over the years is that for someone to make noticeable changes in any aspect of their life , they have to want it so bad that it becomes a burning desire.

It’s easy to say you want things, and do anything or be prepared to put the hard yards in. you have to want your end goal so bad that you will do whatever it takes to get there. Envision yourself in that position and with the right work ethic you will get there.

That is why Kaden and I want to create this service, we don't want to create just another fitness business that promotes fast results or puts you on unsustainable diets and workout routines.

We want to make a service that guides you, as my uncle did to me. To encourage you to adopt new healthy habits that will be sustained in the long run. So when it does come time for you to no longer use our service you’ll be equipped with the expertise and experience to continue achieving your health and fitness goals.
