How to grow your start-up doing it solo with a minimum budget

For the last couple of years, I’ve been doing a side-hustle project where remote workers can do team routines, such as task estimation, retrospectives, or online technical interviews. I did it solo, so I did programming, design, advertisement, and texts. Somewhere I made mistakes that hardly can be fixed today. That’s why I want to share the lessons I learned that I would use for my following projects.

Initially, I planned to do just planning poker app, so I did Single Page App using Angular framework and Google Firebase as back-end service and uploaded it to Firebase static hosting. Later I decided to grow the project, I did the main page and added more functionality, so it was still a single app.

The issue is that app logic takes additional time to load, which is not significant for a real user, but it’s essential for ranking in the google search results.

Home and all valuable pages for SEO should be super simple, fast, and informative. Ideally, they can be static pages with text.

To achieve this, you need to make multiple sites. One is a beautiful and fast landing page with all required informative pages. This site can be available on the main domain.

App itself is better to keep as another site. Common practice is to make a subdomain, for example, app.superproject.com. Many known apps go this way.

But if you miss splitting the app and landing page from the beginning, it will be almost impossible when users will use app links.

Growing and getting new customers is one of our primary goals. The cheapest way to get new users in a long-term scenario is to be first in search engines’ results. So it’s crucial to make valuable content on your site, adopt it for search engines and make sure it loads fast.
