Get a Free Education

When we think of an education beyond high school, and a good education at that, we assume it is not possible without spending thousands upon thousands of dollars. The truth is that you can get a solid education for free…or as Will said in Good in Will Hunting — for the price of late fees at the library.

This is a very debatable topic as the term “good” can vary from person to person. Some might see good education as only the ones that come with a high price tag. Some see it only if it follows a specific path or includes certain attributes. Good for you might not be good in my viewpoint.

Personally, I take a good education as one that is continual. It never ends. You might get a good education from one university, but it is up to us to continue down that educational path. A good education continues long after you step outside a classroom.

That being said…

Taking that definition of a good education, we can see that it doesn’t have to be within a structured classroom. In the world today, we have access to more material than most of us did twenty years ago. Why aren’t we taking advantage of that?

Not being in a structured classroom allows us to explore in any direction we want to. If we love history, we can focus on that instead of having to listen to boring lectures on topics that put us to sleep. We can construct our own educational program. Again, why not take that opportunity?
