Let the Right One In

Loneliness rolls you over,
belly up,
waiting in the dark.

Monsters loom outside
the bedroom window,
snuffle under the dust ruffle,
curl their claws
round your feet.

You see,
the mistake
has been made —
you answered the door
when you heard their knock.

Hoping for a visitor,
well —
you got what you wanted.

Now, look
where you are:
exposed,
waiting
in the pitch black.

“Where did all the daylight go?”
You gasp with your last
hitched breath,
bleeding out,
behind
the opened door.
