Dreams

Do you ever have dreams that feel so real and you wake up and realize it’s because it wasn’t just a dream, it’s a memory of what you once had. A memory of something you’ll never have again.

The Lifelong Pursuit of Coddiwomple

Archives: Posts that never made it out at their intended time. October 2021, unfinished.

Coddiwomple — to travel in a purposeful manner towards a vague destination.

Before you go grabbing your dictionary to arm your arsenal of headache-inducing bogus vocabulary, the word “coddiwomple” is not in there. I love to read and recently came across this word in one of my recent reads; so, I have to credit the author that placed this word in my head, S.E Harmon. She mentions that she came across the word in one of those “odd words around the globe” lists and it immediately became a favorite of hers, so much so that it even inspired an entire book and I’m just trying to put my own spin on it.

The pandemic, a period that now looks like it will never end, has driven everyone into what seems like the seventh level of Jumanji. Or maybe a more relatable description these days will be a real-life enactment of squid games, where you are fighting to leave with your life and sanity intact. No cash prizes here though, sorry, at least not unless you are into role-playing as a marshal and apprehending uteruses like wanted fugitives.

Life can sometimes seem like the most meandering journey, and we rarely ever end up exactly where we intended. But I suppose as long as we have the purpose to keep moving, trying, loving, laughing, living…. we can deal with all the U-turns and pitstops along the way. A lot of us, myself included, cannot get out of the mindset of trying to see what’s over there and that’s okay, because sometimes you need to see what it is before you can realize what you have right where you are.

I find myself wanting to have the same conversations over and again either with the same set of people or with a complete stranger and it just hit me today, that I don’t actually know what I am trying to gain from having that conversation which is why I keep pursuing the opportunity to have it again. This is a mini scale of what coddiwomple is, apply it on a much larger scale to different parts of your lives and you’re coddiwompling all day every day.
