This Bible Verse Made Me Question Everything

That’s a dagger of a verse. Especially if you’re the person who has everything you could ever want.

What does it profit you if you end up losing your soul in the end?

I was in my sophomore year of college when my older sister gave me a picture with this verse on it. At the time, I had been saved for about a year and growing in my walk. This verse had me questioning everything because it put my life in proper perspective.

At 20 years old, all I really thought about was making friends, getting good grades, and preparing for a career that I’ll hopefully enjoy.

But getting this perspective made me take it a step further — while we live here on Earth, we can make an eternal impact utilizing the things we do.

He wants to use us to bring His Kingdom and fulfill His will in the Earth.

Jesus always has a way of making you rethink your life.

“What can you give in exchange for your own soul?”

I really tried to answer this question.

Money? Fame? Possessions? Power?

Every time my mind tried to come up with something, it immediately was rejected.

Because literally nothing is more valuable than your soul.

Yet, some have sold their souls for things listed above. As well as other things life has to offer, but that will never amount to the worth of your soul belonging to Christ.

The line prior to verse 36 says, “For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and for the gospel will save it.”

Lose your life for His sake, and for the gospel’s, by trusting in Him for your salvation. Take up your cross, and follow Him. You’ll be motivated to start living a life that resembles heaven on Earth.

The truth is you can’t be your own savior. The Good News is that Jesus promises to save you by giving you eternal life!

What thoughts come up as you meditate on this verse?
