Why Not Start Again?

Sometimes I look at the goals I want to achieve and realize that I haven’t done anything for months. Perhaps even years.

It can be fitness goals, side projects or my career. Anything where I once set my mind to it but stopped pursuing it for some reason.

Things like guest posting on other websites. Working on my own website to make it a resource for public speaking. Writing here on Medium!

The motivation hits me and I want to spend my days making progress towards my goals. But life gets in the way, I feel lazy or something happens like being made redundant and I stop.

But I do want to do more. I want things to change. I want my side projects to succeed. I want to put in more effort and keep going.

It just feels weird starting again, or doing an activity that doesn’t seem to produce any results.

You might have felt the same way at some point. You get excited about a project that really motivates you. Running a business, becoming a famous artist or making a difference in your local community.

You started to make progress towards your goal, but along the way something happened and you stopped. You got bored or you weren’t able to work on your goal again.

After some time has passed, you look back on the goal you once had and wonder what life would be like if you had put in more effort and seen things through to the end.

I don’t know the answer to that question, but I would answer it with another question.

Why not pick things up one more time? Why not start again?

Is it too late to achieve your goals? Is it harder to achieve your goals?

It may seem like it, but I always see new individuals making a name for themselves, whether it is running a business or being the new breakout musician.

If other people can become a successful entrepreneur or the newest hit, why would it be impossible for you?

You might have to take your work and move in a different direction, but I don’t believe that would deny you the success that you want to achieve.

I don’t know. I don’t think success is something that is determined by hard work and guts alone. I believe there’s a good amount of luck involved, as life sometimes throws unpredictable events at you.

An example is writing. There are many authors, new and existing. You aren’t going to stand out just because you come in with a few pieces of writing. Even if you write every day you might not be successful.

But I think writing every day and enjoying it is much better than sitting around doing nothing. At least you are trying to change your life for the better.

I think working on your goals, whether you succeed or not, is better than never finding out the result in the end.

You gain valuable skills and experience that can be used elsewhere. You know what it means to work hard towards a goal. You know what it means to actually put in effort.

If you ever have a side project you’ve left alone for too long, think about trying it again.

If you had a goal you wanted to achieve, look back and think about making it come true this time.

Maybe you might have to get your life sorted out first. Maybe you might have to change first before anything can happen.

But I don’t believe that you can’t achieve your goals. Not while other people are out there proving that it is possible.

It might take one step at a time. But a step forward is better than not moving at all.
