Chloe Kim Emerges as Breakout American Star of 2018 Olympics

Since debuting in the 1998 Nagano Games, snowboarding has become entrenched as an Olympic sport with additional events like parallel giant slalom and snowboard cross added to the program. The halfpipe competition, however, has been held every four years since 1998 and, entering the 2018 Olympics, Americans have won gold in three of the five Games.

While most athletes are known for their intense focus, Kim was rather nonchalant during competition. She tweeted her regret for not finishing a breakfast sandwich earlier in the day between her second and third runs and, during qualifiers, tweeted about her appetite for ice cream.
